While running a Games shop in 1980, Paul, began 'Paul Henni Design', initially sharing a workshop with Ali and Trish Morrison. Paul designed eight incredibly original Dwarves that enjoyed a limited release as Paul Henni's Hill Dwarves with Games Workshop/Citadel in 1986. As this was a short lived arrangement, for which Paul got 10% of the sales (a mere six pounds) Paul took his Dwarves and began his own range of figures as 'Acropolis Design' Incorporating the Dwarves in a series he called 'Maze City' There were two changes from the original eight Dwarves, Abdul Noface had a beard that came out towards you looking at him from the front - this caused mould problems, so he was remodelled as AMC035.

ran a Games Shop in the early 1980's when GW/Citadel started making figures, then had my own Design Business creating masters for casting and my own ranges of figures, initially sharing a workshop with Aly and Trish Morrison, the GW/Marauder designers. I gave up designing in late-1980's

GW/Citadel released (limited) your Hill dwarves in 1986....... Presumably, as you kept the full production rights, you severed your arrangement with them (GW) ? Yes I kept the rights. The agreement was for a limited release through GW mail order and I got 10% of the sales (£6!), they did the moulds, casting and selling.

(if its not too personal, could you say why ?) The arrangement wasn't severed, just short lived. I was sharing a small workshop once a week with Aly and Trish Morisson, who gave me encouragement, I visited GW around this time, met the design team, Bryan Ansell etc and was offered a job as a mould maker, which I didn't fancy.

Started Acropolis Design (cast & distributed by Scotia Micromodels)

and began 'Acropolis Design' (when ?) Around end 1987/early 1988.

Did you work on any other Dwarf projects for GW ? Nope, that was it.

As 'Acropolis Design' - The original 8 (GW) dwarves were re-designed & given solid bases, and 4 more were added. (As the present owner 'The Baggage Train' only offer 6 of the original 8, as per the GW flyer, Wersmaface & Abul Noface are not among them.) --These 2 dwarves are my highest priority, as I have no examples of them on the site ? The diorama I have has the two missing ones (see Picture 1). Abdul Noface (at back of diorama) had a beard that came out towards you looking at him from the front - this caused mould problems, so he was remodelled as AMC035, I don't think Wersmaface (at front of diorama) was re-released, but I could be wrong...

the 4 extra added, were they: The Wheeled shieldbearer, Guardsman with spear, Guardsman with Halberd, Legionary Dwarf with Axe (per your pic 8, and on my site as

  1. AMC031, AMC028, AMC026 & ADC012) ?

All of the AMC coded figures were either the originals or new designs added to the range Maze City range. All of the ADC coded figures were designed to be Rhom (Roman) dwarves.

How long did 'Acropolis Design' operate, before it was sold it to 'Scotia' ? I can't remember. I worked with Bob Fergusson of Scotia for a couple of years, I did the designs and he cast and sold them. I also did freelance work for him, e.g. 1/300 scale WW1, WW2 and SF. I sold Acropolis to Bob and then started Zap! Figues. I gave up designing in about 1991.

Your kind inclusion of a catalogue is very much appreciated, along with any older paperwork you are able to find.

Sorry - had a look around and not much luck so far - I'll let you know if I find anyting. May have some photos somewhere...
